The tech businessman turned philanthropist says he is giving away free copies of one of his favorite books of 2018. In fact, Bill Gates says he is giving away one free copy to all new graduates of US universities and colleges. The book in question is “Factfulness” and was written by Swedish statistician Hans Rosling. He died last year from pancreatic cancer, but the book was completed by his son Ola and daughter-in-law Anna. Gates was so empowered by the book, he has decided students should be too.

Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong about the World–And Why Things Are Better Than You Think (to give its full title) is part of Gates’ must-read book list. This week, the former Microsoft CEO wrote: “If you’re being awarded an associate’s, bachelor’s, or post-graduate degree, download your free copy.”

Inspiration

In April, Gates took to his GatesNotes website to review Factfulness. It seems the book had an impact on Gates and he suggest he could have used its foresight earlier in his career: “This was a breakthrough to me. The framework Hans enunciates is one that took me decades of working in global development to create for myself, and I could have never expressed it in such a clear way. I’m going to try to use this model moving forward.” We will leave it up to you to decide whether this book is for you or not. In the meantime, Gates wants any interested graduates to sign up to download the book for free.
