On Android and iOS, Microsoft Authenticator already serves as a security hub to your Microsoft activity. That usefulness is extended by notification support. Microsoft says personal account information changes will now be shown in alerts to users. “The goal of these notifications is to increase awareness and help you react quickly if there is unexpected activity,” explains Alex Simons of Microsoft’s Azure identity division. Events on a Microsoft Account, such as personal information changes, password updates, sign-in locations, and new device access will result in a notification in Authenticator. This allows users to quickly and easily see when there is unusual account activity. “You’ll automatically start receiving alerts when we detect sensitive or unusual actions on your account, such as changing your password, adding a new phone number or email addresses, or signing in from a new device or unusual location. These notifications give you a powerful tool to understand and keep control of your account,” adds Simons.

The additions of notifications make Microsoft Authenticator a much more useful application. As usual, if you don’t want the notifications, they can be disabled through Android or iOS settings. Microsoft launched its Authenticator app back in 2016. The service provides native two-factor authentication on devices when accessing a Microsoft Account. Since the launch, numerous features have been added, including a phone sign-in ability, fingerprint support, password free login, and Apple Watch support.
