If you’re unfamiliar with the Windows Search Box, it is the white search pane located in the taskbar next to the Start button. This is the central search hub for Windows 10, allowing users to search for files, programs, content, settings, and system tools. Microsoft says the new updates is rolling out directly to end users. In other words, it is not an Insider build for preview use. The company points out users must be running Windows 10 1809 or higher. Because this is a server-side update, it will arrive automatically on Windows 10 machines. In a Windows Blog post, Microsoft describes the changes in Windows Search Box. It is worth noting they are minor tweaks, month them a list of the last four items searched for. Users can now also remove items from the list.

“The recent list shows the last four items that you’ve searched for and opened from Windows Search Box, which can include apps, files, settings, and direct-nav URLs (for example, like “bing.com”).
You can remove individual items in this list by clicking the “x” that shows when you hover your mouse over the items.
You can disable the Recent feature by turning off the Windows setting “Search history on this device” under Settings > Search > Permissions and History.
If you’ve not used Windows Search Box before and have 0 recent items, the recent list will be hidden.”
Finally, Microsoft adds users who don’t use the search function often and have 2 or less items in the recent list, a new educational string will appear in this location. The string provides information on what items could appear in the list.
